Clean Cookstoves

About a third of the world’s population currently burns solid fuels like wood, charcoal, or animal dung for cooking, and that affects both global emissions and the health of communities, mostly in developing nations. Clean cookstoves use solar power, thermal efficiency, and other strategies to reduce greenhouse gas production and save lives.

Expand Renewable Energy: Solar and Wind Projects

The food and beverage industry uses fossil fuel energy through production and modification of raw ingredients, manufacture of products and packaging, service supplies, refrigeration, and more. Renewable energy offsets, such as wind and solar farming, mitigate that consumption of fossil fuels.

Nature-Based Initiatives for a Greener Future

Forestry management and other conservation practices protect the ecosystems that consume carbon dioxide – like emissions from supplier, distributor, and delivery vehicles – from the atmosphere. Offsets can also address soil health to sequester carbon, which creates an opportunity for growers supplying raw ingredients to practice more climate-friendly farming.

Cutting-Edge Carbon Removal Projects

Packaging and food waste in landfills releases methane, a major contributor to greenhouse gases. Using anaerobic digesters to break down the gas also releases electric power and heat to harness in place of fossil fuels for even greater downstream impact. Another exciting technology, direct air carbon capture and storage, scrubs carbon dioxide right off the air, kind of like plants and trees.

FAQs

Discover answers to common questions about our carbon neutral certification and how we can assist your team.

What does it mean to go carbon neutral?

The ClimateHound Carbon Neutral Certification means a company has:

1. Calculated their total carbon footprint for the year, including supply chain emissions.
2. Committed to reducing overall environmental impact.
3. Funded projects to offset their remaining annual emissions.

What are carbon offsets?

GHG emissions can be removed or avoided in various “carbon negative” projects such as through preserving forests, renewable energy, carbon capture, and clean cookstoves. Many companies remove or avoid emissions indirectly by purchasing “carbon offsets” in which the environment benefits have been thoroughly vetted. Each carbon offset certificate purchased represents 1 metric ton of GHG emissions

Can't we just do this ourselves?

Sure, you could do this yourself, but you’re busy running a business, and you don’t have time to become an expert on emissions reduction and carbon neutrality. ClimateHound has done the research to ensure that your funding for carbon negative projects produces real, measurable impact, and you can feel confident in telling your customers that you’re doing what’s right for the planet.
